I don’t mean the sit-in-a-box-and-tell-a-priest-all-your-sins kind of confession (if that’s what came to your mind) nor am I referring to the dump-on-someone-by-telling-them-all-the-things-you-did-wrong kind of confession either.

I’m talking about clearing your mind, body and spirit of what bogs you down. It’s all about release, letting go, and moving on. And the beauty of it is: you can do it alone. This is between you and Spirit. No priest or booth required.

One of my favorite methods for confession is the A.C.T.S. prayer format, which stands for:

Adoration (acknowledge the God of your understanding)

Confession (state all the stuff you want to clear from your mind and heart)

Thanksgiving (offer thanks and praise)

Supplication (state your request)

I use it often. The reason I’ve found the ACTS prayer format to be powerfully cleansing is because it clears my mind of anything that attempts to keep me locked and stymied. When excessive guilt is present, powerful forward movement is compromised. When we’re languishing over what we did yesterday and flagellating ourselves over the inner crimes we’ve committed (most crimes never make it to the outside world, they fester and rot on the inside), creating and fulfilling destiny is little more than a wish.

On the other hand, people who are light with themselves by admitting mistakes quickly and openly are free to fly unburdened toward what they desire.

You don’t need the extra baggage. Make your travel light. Clear yourself daily of stuff you think you’ve done wrong, could have done differently, wish you could do over, or are just plain ashamed of. Here’s where confession comes in; it’s a handy way of releasing the should’s, could’s, would have’s, why-did-I’s, why-didn’t-I’s and any other thought that’s become your personal impediment to living out loud.

Since it feels so darned good to confess, and I’m recommending it to you, here are a few of my confessions today:

I confess feeling afraid and wondering if I would survive when I had to step way out of my comfort zone at a book signing this past Friday night at Borders Books.

I confess there’s a part of me that doesn’t believe in anything, much less God.

I confess the aspect of my personality that wants to control everyone and everything, simply because it’s afraid of everyone and everything.

I confess fear, big time.

I confess ‘can’t', even when I know I can.

I confess judging people for what they do when it doesn’t agree with what I think they should do (there’s goes that control thing again).

Yeah, I said above that these are some of my confessions for today. It’s good to make a daily habit of confessing; it’s like taking out the mental and emotional trash. I’ll probably have more stuff to confess tomorrow. This is about releasing whatever comes up in the moment so I can keep moving forward.

If you’d like examples of A.C.T.S. prayers, check back tomorrow. I’ll share a few of mine-they’ve been incredibly cleansing.

In the meantime, create an opportunity today to clear your mind, heart and spirit of anything you’d love to release. Confess it all. Get it out of your system.

Then continue on the path of creating an amazing destiny for yourself.

Lovingly,

VAL
