This past weekend, I conducted a women’s retreat, which turned out to be an amazing success. God is good. At times during the weekend, because it was full of activity, I felt rushed. When I did, I took a moment to center myself and slow things down. I thought of writing this post because of my experience this weekend and the daily reading for today from Science of Mind magazine.
The reading included an affirmation that can be used when we feel there’s too many things to do and not enough time to do them. We live in a hurried society, where it’s easy to develop the nasty habit of rushing. Even when I’ve set an intention to be calm, serene and tranquil, the intention can be challenged at points during the day when I feel overwhelm creeping in and I catch myself thinking:
“I’ve got so much to do and so little time…”
“Where does the time go?”
“I’ve got a lot on my plate…”
None of these thoughts has to be true. They’re just thoughts; and thoughts can be changed. The reading this morning helped me and I thought I’d share it with you, and add more affirmations for specific everyday challenges. First, here’s the affirmation from Science of Mind (this one was written by Rev. Maggie Buck):
“There is more than enough time in God.”
Repeat it often when you feel like rushing while remembering that you never really need to rush. What gets done gets done. What doesn’t, doesn’t. You’ll live longer if you make a life decision not to rush.
Here are affirmations for more everyday situations/experiences (each affirmation is repeated here 3 times):
Anger
Because most of us have angry moments (anger is a necessary human emotion) I thought I’d add affirmations for calming down:
The peace of God now envelopes me.
The peace of God now envelopes me.
The peace of God now envelopes me.
Stress
Almost all dis-ease and illness in the body temple is from stress. Eliminate stress and you naturally eliminate a major cause of dis-ease and illness. Here is an affirmation to use when stressful feelings arise:
All is well. I am calm. I am tranquil. I am serene. All is well.
All is well. I am calm. I am tranquil. I am serene. All is well.
All is well. I am calm. I am tranquil. I am serene. All is well.
Confusion
Confusion is a trick of the ego mind to keep us from living our purpose fully. When you’re confused, you stop, procrastinate or run around in circles. A confused mind says no. Living purposefully requires a clear YES! Besides, we’re never really confused–we just tell ourselves we are. Here is an affirmation for ending the thought of confusion:
I am clear in mind! I know just what to do! I thank God for clarity of purpose! I thank God for clear vision!
I am clear in mind! I know just what to do! I thank God for clarity of purpose! I thank God for clear vision!
I am clear in mind! I know just what to do! I thank God for clarity of purpose! I thank God for clear vision!
The need to be right
I get bitten by this bug sometimes, especially when it comes to me, my husband and the toilet paper roll. You know this one, you’re having a heated discussion with someone and you know you’re right. The problem is, the other person knows they’re right too. Who’s right and who’s wrong? I don’t know. Either way, it doesn’t matter. Right and wrong are traps. Don’t fall into them. You don’t have to be right. And not being right doesn’t make you wrong. We get ourselves entrenched in the right/wrong debate and we only choose to have the debate with the people we love most. Don’t fall into this trap! Here’s an affirmation to repeat to yourself when you become aware that you’re making a rapid descent into the I’m-right-you’re-wrong trap:
Right here and right now I let go and I let God!
Right here and right now I let go and I let God!
Right here and right now I let go and I let God!
Non-attentiveness to others when they speak:
I read an article last night before falling asleep in Pure Inspiration magazine about listening. It stated that heart centered listening is one of the greatest gifts we can give another human being. When you notice yourself not listening to someone who’s speaking, and I mean listening with your heart, not just with your head, slowly bring yourself present by repeating:
God listens. I listen.
God listens. I listen.
God listens. I listen.
I pray these simple affirmations will support you in living higher. Remember, affirmations work best when breathe deeply as you repeat them over and over and over. Your mind must be trained to accept the thought. Repetition drives the idea in deeper and deeper. Soon, it will become a part of your consciousness and will manifest in your outer world.
Happy affirming!
