This morning I read a quote in the book A Course in Miracles that I really loved.
I thought I’d share it with you here:
“God is my life. I have no life but His.
I was mistaken when I thought I lived apart from God, a separate entity that moved in isolation, unattached, and housed within a body. Now I know my life is God’s, I have no other home, and I do not exist apart from Him…
Our Father, let us see the face of Christ instead of our mistakes. For we who are Your holy Son are sinless. We would look upon our sinlessness, for guilt proclaims that we are not Your Son. And we would not forget You longer. We are lonely here, and long for Heaven, where we are at home. Today we would return. Our Name is Yours, and we acknowledge that we are Your Son.” (Lesson #223)
I loved this passage. It reminds me that I am never alone. Neither are you.
I was moved to share it after this weekend’s event. I conducted a workshop for women on Saturday (Women Coming Together for Revelation & Discovery) which went extremely well. What I know, from working with women in workshops and from my coaching practice, is that there is a widespread belief in separation from our Source, which is God. Feelings of loneliness, discontent, unhappiness and sorrow must follow such a belief. When we believe we are alone, we allow ourselves to fall into an ‘it’s-me-against-the-world’ mode of behavior. After all, if I’m alone, I have to take care of myself, right?
Wrong.
In some respects, you can no more take care of yourself than a baby can. Oh sure, you can go to work and make money, and you can go shopping for food and necessities, and you can do lots of other self-supporting activities. But the question remains:
Who’s really taking care of you?
The One who’s really taking care of us, in each moment of each day, is God. Today’s lesson from ACIM reminded me of that very relevant fact:
“Now I know my life is God’s and I do not exist apart from Him…”
Whenever we think we are alone, we are very mistaken.
“I was mistaken when I thought I lived apart from God, a separate entity…”
You cannot exist apart from God, it is an impossibility. Therefore, you can never be alone.
As long as you’re breathing, God is your Lifeline, nearer to you than your breath. This is a promise.
Part of you knows this already, and is fully aware of God’s presence always.
Then there’s that other part… that part of you that thinks life is hard, people are stupid and love equals pain. It’s the part of you that believes in Murphy’s law. It’s the part of you that keeps arguing with people you care about even when the wiser you is saying “it would be a good idea to close your mouth right now.” You know that part of you that I’m referring to, we all have it. It’s the dreaded ego, which is insidious and will stop at nothing to undermine our belief in the inherent Oneness of all creation. That’s it’s job, to keep everyone and everything in your mind separate and at war.
No more. Today, you can be free. Today, you can make a new choice.
Of course, you won’t chase off your negative ego with just one decision.
You’ll have to re-make the choice for God every day, in every way.
Yeah, it’s work. And yeah, though it’s a simple idea, it’s far from easy.
What’s the payoff for all this hard work? I can think of 4 benefits of remembering Oneness in every moment:
- Peace. You don’t have to keep fighting people because you’ll realize you’re only fighting yourself. Your sister and brother are holy mirrors, showing you what you look like. There is no separation between ‘you’ and ‘them’. There is no place where you end and they begin.
- Power. Which thought is more empowering? You choose: I’m alone or, I and the Father are One just as you and I are one.
- Protection. When you know no one is out to get you, you can relax and know that all is exceedingly well. You are taken care of. You are watched over and protected.
- Prayer. Your prayer life can come alive with the intensity that accompanies knowing God as nearer than your breath. You’re not praying to some guy with a long white beard sitting on a big throne in heaven. You’re praying to the Omnipresent One–present everywhere at all times, including in you, in your heart, in your mind, in your breath, in the very cells of your being.
I got my reminder this morning of God’s Omnipresence and the fact that my life belongs to God; I cannot exist apart from Him. I love it that way. I’m grateful for the knowing and I’m elated for what it means in my daily walk with Spirit.
God is good!
Be very blessed today and always,
Valerie Love

This lesson and your commentary really makes me think of the classic Christian parable, “Footsteps.”
I truly believe that “Footsteps” applies to everybody of all religions… all spiritual paths… and even those of none. We have all had support in some way, shape or form – whether it be direct help, or indirect simply by the air we breathe and the food we eat.
Once the mind steps aside, we realize it is impossible to ever be truly “alone.” Or, one might counter that if we are all one then we are always “a lone”
I enjoyed a similar experience recently. I set aside personal space to pray and meditate and was really enjoying my new room. Then one thing after another seemed to “prevent” me from enjoing my daily meditation. After day two of missing my prayer time, God clearly said to me, “I am Here. Where ever you are, so am I? So go ahead and meditate and pray.” What a joy! I still maintain a constant time for prayer, but I really needed to be reminded God is always with me.
